ABOUT THE MOVEMENT
Sixteen Stories is a testament to the power of the feminist voice, narrative, advocacy, activism and collaboration. In recognition and celebration of the global initiative, 16 Days Campaign, the collaboration invites everyone who engaged with feminist activism throughout each year to submit their stories and join us in building a community around the purpose of activism and change.
OUR HISTORY
The Sixteen Stories movement launched in 2020 by Alexadra “Alex” Stamson in response to the global pandemic and turbulent social and geo-political landscape in the U.S. and abroad. The movement created a space to collect stories of activism, agency and change from feminist voices and perspectives across the world. In 2021, Shenée was a featured feminist, and was deeply moved by the power of this campaign to amplify the voices of everyday activists. As fate would have it, in 2022 Alex passed the torch to Shenée to continue and grow this movement. 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of the Sixteen Days of Activism campaign founded by Rutgers University's Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL), later recognized by the United Nations. We recognize and celebrate the courage, bravery, persistence of these foremothers and their commitment to, research, advocacy and activism for the past 30 years.
